Edan is an incredible character: With him, it's either "Sing it, shitface" or an activity in hip-bounce intellect, as heard on his Fast Rap mixtape. Which is the reason one never realizes what's in store from his recorded yield. His introduction LP, Primitive Plus, blended the impeded in with the cunning; it was an engaging collection in an explorer period that was more regularly repetitive than invigorating. Along these lines, when photographs of the recently hirsute Edan developed and gossipy tidbits about a "rock" record made the rounds, it turned out to be anything but difficult to envision a Derek/Biggie Smalls idea collection packed with incongruity and wankery. This record is a big deal. Having set up himself as a heartless mind and energetic researcher of rap, Edan makes the jump to "genuine craftsman" on Beauty and the Beat, showing an auteurism that places him level with his forerunners rather than prostrate before them.
