Blake Griffin Clippers Jersey . USA Basketball trimmed its roster for the upcoming FIBA World Cup, cutting John Wall, Bradley Beal and Paul Millsap on Tuesday. A total of 16 players are still competing for 12 spots on the team that will play in Spain later this summer. The remaining finalists including DeRozan are DeMarcus Cousins, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Andre Drummond, Kevin Durant, Kenneth Faried, James Harden, Gordon Hayward, Kyrie Irving, Kyle Korver, Damian Lillard, Chandler Parsons, Derrick Rose, Klay Thompson and Mason Plumlee. "All 16 guys have a chance to make to the team, which usually does not happen in a training camp, and it shows that all of the guys thus far have done an excellent job," said Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski in a statement Tuesday. "Then its just a matter of finding what chemistry that we can develop with the entire group and I dont think well know that until we play some exhibition games. The 16 guys give us a chance to look at a way of playing in a number of different ways and we just have to figure out what those ways are and then the 12 who will fit best." Plumlee was an addition to the roster, which lost Paul George to a broken leg during Saturdays scrimmage at the conclusion of the teams training camp in Las Vegas. "The ending to our Las Vegas training camp with the injury to Paul George was very emotional for everyone involved in USA Basketball," said managing director Jerry Colangelo in a statement Tuesday. "I very much appreciate the outpouring of support Paul and USA Basketball has received the past couple of days from the basketball world." There had been speculation that some of the team members might pull out in the wake of Georges gruesome injury. The Pacers star landed awkwardly against the stanchion behind the basket, snapping his tibia and fibula. He underwent surgery Saturday night and could be sidelined for the entire 2014-15 season. "Past Olympic coaches and some of our past Olympic and world championship players have reached out offering their continued support and thats very important," Colangelo added. "Pauls injury was an extremely unfortunate occurrence; it was truly a freak accident. Were all very pleased that his recovery is going well." Wall and Millsap were late replacements after Kevin Love and Blake Griffin withdrew from consideration. "Weve said all along that we would be proud to have any of the players who were in Las Vegas represent USA Basketball and the United States," Colangelo stated. "This phase of the selection process was extremely difficult and very thorough, and its worth again mentioning that we are looking to select the best team, which are not necessarily the best players. Were pleased with where we are at this point of our training and were looking forward to getting back on the court and continuing our preparations to represent the United States at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup." Practice will begin Aug. 14 in Chicago. A pair of exhibition games are slated for Madison Square Garden in New York on Aug. 20 and Aug. 22.
