He hired Adam Gase to be his next head coach, made some splash moves in free agency that included big-money signings Le’Veon Bell and C.J. Mosley, then was fired two weeks after the NFL Draft. Gase is now the interim GM, as he continues to show outstanding ability to fall upwards.Gase obviously won’t be doing both coach and GM duties when the 2019 regular season rolls around, so the search is underway to find the new man in charge of leading the Jets back into playoff contention. Among the names reportedly under consideration is longtime Seattle Seahawks executive Scott Fitterer.I think this is about the 75th time Fitterer’s name has surfaced as a potential GM hire for another team. Just in 2017 alone there was interest from the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Indianapolis Colts. Fitterer has been with the Seahawks organization since 2001, which was so long ago that Seattle was still in the AFC and the Mariners actually dared to win baseball games. When Pete Carroll and John Schneider came on board in 2010, Fitterer went from area scout to director of college scouting. His current position of Co-Director of Player Personnel has been held since the 2015 season.To whomever actually lands the Jets GM job, whether it’s Fitterer or someone else, all I can say is “good luck with that.”
