NEW YORK -- Tone Time is over for the New York Jets. Nathan MacKinnon Jersey . The Jets parted ways with wide receiver Santonio Holmes on Monday, cutting the talented but injury-plagued playmaker after four seasons. The move, which had been expected, saves the Jets $8.25 million, which Holmes was due to make as his base salary this season. He was also scheduled to have a $10.75 million cap number, a lofty total for a one-time Super Bowl MVP who has struggled with injuries and inconsistency the last two seasons. The Jets also released cornerback Antonio Cromartie on Sunday, clearing $17.75 million of salary cap space before the NFLs free agency period starts Tuesday. New York could also save another $8.3 million if they cut quarterback Mark Sanchez, who missed last season with a shoulder injury. Holmes, who turned 30 last Monday, had 23 catches -- the second-lowest total of his career -- for 456 yards and a touchdown in 11 games last season. He missed five games midway through the season with a hamstring injury. Holmes played in just four games in 2012 and was sidelined for several months after suffering a career-threatening foot injury. In December, Holmes said he would be willing to restructure his contract to remain a member of the Jets, adding that how much of a pay cut hed be asked to take probably wouldnt play into his decision to want to stay. "I appreciate Tones contributions over the last four seasons," coach Rex Ryan said in a statement. "Ive always admired his knack for making the clutch play. Hes a tremendous competitor who wants the ball in his hands when the game is on the line. I wish him nothing but the best." Holmes signed a five-year, $45 million deal before the 2011 season after a solid first year with the Jets, who acquired him from Pittsburgh for a fifth-round draft pick. He agreed to restructure his contract in March 2012, when he took a $3.5 million cut to his scheduled base salary of $11 million for last season. Holmes was a controversial figure at times during his tenure with the Jets, butting heads with Sanchez and the teams offensive linemen during the 2011 season. In the season finale at Miami, he got into an argument with offensive tackle Wayne Hunter in the huddle and was benched for the rest of the game. The mercurial wide receiver also had a contentious relationship with the media, keeping his answers short during most group interviews. He inadvertently made headlines last season when he called Carolinas secondary the Panthers defences "weakest link" while trying to credit the unit -- but providing bulletin board for an opponent that went out and beat the Jets 30-20. Holmes was a first-round draft pick by the Steelers out of Ohio State in 2006 and was selected the Super Bowl MVP in his third season after he caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger with 35 seconds left to lead Pittsburgh past Arizona. He had his best statistical performance the following season with 79 catches for 1,248 yards and five touchdowns. But Holmes was traded to the Jets the following off-season after the Steelers tired of his numerous legal troubles. Holmes was suspended for his first four games with the Jets for violating the NFLs substance abuse policy, but quickly became one of the teams primary playmakers when he returned. He played a key role in three straight wins with big catches late in games, prompting Ryan to label those types of clutch moments as "Tone Time." He also helped lead the Jets to their second straight AFC title game appearance, in which they lost to Holmes former team. Holmes has 381 career catches for 5,963 yards and 36 touchdowns in eight NFL seasons. Jonathan Bernier Jersey . The 24-year-old Raley was 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA for Chicago in his first two career starts after being called up from Iowa on Aug. 7. He was optioned to Iowa on Monday after losing 3-0 to Cincinnati in Chicago on Sunday. Nikita Zadorov Jersey . - David Tomasek had two goals in regulation time and was the lone scorer in the shootout as the Belleville Bulls upset the Oshawa Generals 6-5 on Wednesday in Ontario Hockey League action. http://www.cheapavalanchejerseys.com/?tag=adidas-john-wensink-jersey . Durant finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds, Jackson matched his career high with 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting and Lamb scored 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, lifting the Thunder to a 94-88 win over San Antonio and snapping the Spurs 11-game winning streak.Cody Gribble and Mackenzie Hughes have both celebrated victories in their rookie campaigns on the PGA Tour this season, but what do they have to do to match the likes of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy? We have selected five stand-out maiden seasons since the PGA Tour first introduced a Rookie of the Year award in 1990, and our quintet have amassed an impressive 26 major victories between them - although Tiger Woods accounts for more than half of those! The likes of John Daly and Ernie Els both chalked up major wins in their first seasons as full PGA Tour members, a feat that proved out of the reach of Woods, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth. So who put together the best set of results as a rookie? Rory McIlroy, 2010Although he did not consider himself a rookie, McIlroy played his first full season as a PGA Tour member and enjoyed a successful campaign highlighted by his astonishing win at the Wells Fargo Championship, where he narrowly made the cut and shot 66-62 over the weekend to blow away a world-class field. Rory McIlroy 2010: P16, 1 win, 5 top 10s, 4 MCs He finished third at The Open despite following his opening 63 with a wind-battered 80 at St Andrews, and he was a whisker away from joining Martin Kaymer and Bubba Watson in a play-off at the PGA Championship.McIlroy enjoyed five top-10 finishes in his 16 starts with only four missed cuts, although he is the only player in this page to have missed out on the Rookie of the Year award, with Rickie Fowler getting the nod instead.Ernie Els, 1994Like Daly three years previously, Els made his major breakthough in his first season as a PGA Tour member when he edged out Loren Roberts and Colin Montgomerie in a play-off at the US Open. Ernie Els 1994: P 11, 1 win, 4 top 10s, 1 MC The smooth-swinging South African made only 11 starts in the US as he balanced his commitments to the European Tour, and he missed only one cut while claiming a runner-up place at the Buick Classic - a week before his US Open win - and two further top-10 finishes.Jordan Spieth, 2013The next next big thing enjoyed a prolific rookie campaign which featured a handsome victory over the vastly-experrienced Zach Johnson at the John Deere Classic, two weeks before his 20th birthday. Ray Bourque Jersey. Jordan Spieth 2013: P23, 1 win, 9 top 10s, 5 MCs In 23 starts on the PGA Tour, Spieth failed to make the weekend only five times and posted nine top-10 finishes, claiming the third of his three runner-up spots at the season-ending Tour Championship. His performance in Atlanta lifted him to seventh in the FedExCup standings and earned him a captains pick for the Presidents Cup, where he won two points out of four to help Fred Couples side to victory.Tiger Woods, 1996Hello world was how Woods announced himself to professional golf, although he hardly set the world alight in his debut among the paid ranks, finishing in a lowly tie for 60th at the Greater Milwaukee Open. Tiger Woods 1996: P8, 2 wins, 5 top 10s, 0 MCs Just four tournaments later, Woods collected the first of his 79 PGA Tour titles to the delight of the fans at the Las Vegas Invitational, and win No 2 arrived shortly afterwards in the Disney Classic.Five top 10s in eight starts, with no missed cuts, and Woods was all set to provide the most serious threat to the record 18 major titles of Jack Nicklaus.John Daly, 1991More known for his prodigious hitting than for winning tournaments until he burst onto the golfing world with his sensational victory at the PGA Championship, when he scraped into the field as ninth reserve and blitzed the competition by three shots in Indiana. John Daly 1991: P33, 1 win, 5 top 10s, 12 MCs The Wild Thing was hardly a model of consistency over his 33 starts that year, missing the cut in 12 tournaments, but he did notch four top-10 finishes including a third place at the season-ending Tour Championship.Unfortunately for Daly, his best performances came too late to earn a call-up to the US Ryder Cup team, and he was also overlooked for the 1995 contest despite winning The Open earlier that year.Upgrade to Sky Sports now and get 12 months half price.
