CARDIFF -- Moving on from a frustrating World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo began the new season as the last one ended for Real Madrid -- with goals and a trophy. Bryan Shaw Jersey . The Portugal forward netted both goals as the European champions convincingly overcame Europa League winner Sevilla with a 2-0 victory to collect the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday. Ronaldo swept the ball in at the far post in the 30th minute after racing onto Gareth Bales cross, and the world player of the year powered in another four minutes into the second half after being setup by Karim Benzema. "I didnt feel any pain -- I felt pretty good," said Ronaldo, who scored just once in three World Cup games after arriving in Brazil hampered by a left leg injury. "I felt happy to help the team win the trophy ... we played better, with more intensity." Madrid only collected two pieces of silverware last season, but the Copa del Rey triumph was following by ending a 12-year wait to claim a 10th European Cup. Victory in Tuesdays all-Spanish showpiece game captured the first of a possible six trophies for Madrid this season -- a task helped by summer additions that ensured the value of the starting lineup at the Cardiff City Stadium exceeded $600 million. Madrid moved swiftly to sign up the revelation of the World Cup, top-scoring Colombia playmaker James Rodriguez from Monaco for $108 million, along with Germany midfielder Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich for around $40 million. Madrid, with their extra dynamism, unnerved Sevilla from the start, even if their less potent opponents did produce the first threatening shot of the game when Vitolos close-range effort was batted away by Iker Casillas. "We were missing something and werent as aggressive as we could have been," Sevilla coach Unai Emery said through a translator. Many locals had snapped up tickets to see Bale playing in his home city for the first time in the white of Real Madrid. The $130-million Cardiff boy, who made such a devastating impact in his first season in the Spanish capital, just couldnt delight them with a goal. Although his bursts of pace unsettled Sevilla, a tame early shot landed on the roof of the net and a shot from Rodriguezs fine cross was blocked in a crowded penalty area. Bale started on the right with Ronaldo on the opposite flank, but a quick switch helped Real outwit Sevilla to go in front. Ronaldo instigated the move on the halfway line, knocking the ball across to Rodriguez, who released Bale down the left. The rapid advance was completed by Bale sending in pinpoint cross into the path of Ronaldo to slide in past Fernando Navarro and poke the ball over the line. "Weve shown last season that we both created goals for each other, scored a lot of goals and were enjoying playing together," Bale said of Ronaldo. "Obviously we can still improve together and create a good partnership." After being in complete control of the first half, it took just four minutes into the second half for Madrid with Ronaldo once again starting the move that led to the goal after the Spanish capital club broke down the left. World Cup winner Kroos knocked the ball forward for Benzema before it was rolled back for Ronaldo to lash a powerful shot through the fingertips of Beto. Ronaldos double earned him the player of the match award, which was presented by Alex Ferguson, the manager who nurtured his talent at Manchester United. "He was the coach who taught me many things," the 29-year-old Ronaldo said. "So I appreciate him giving me the trophy." For Rodriguez, all that was missing was a goal to cap his debut, and it nearly came in the 68th when a left-footed strike was only kept out by Betos one-handed save. Tougher matches will come, but a second trophy can be collected -- the domestic Super Cup against Atletico Madrid -- before the task of taking the league title off its neighbour begins. Carlos Gonzalez Jersey . Jeff Carter had two goals and an assist as the Kings stretched their streak to seven wins in a row with a 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday. Kyle Freeland Jersey . Still, Encarnacion felt a sense of relief. He felt a pop just before crumpling to the ground after running out a groundball in the first inning of Saturdays game. It could have been worse. “Its going to take maybe two weeks,” said Encarnacion. “It depends how Im going to be and how Im going to be day after day, feeling better or not. http://www.rockiesgearproshop.com/Rockies-Greg-Holland-Kids-Jersey/ . The bout served as the headlining matchup of Saturdays "UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva" event, which took place at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. It was Silva who looked well on his way to victory in the early going, delivering a pair of crushing kicks to the body that sent Brown crashing to the floor, doubled over in pain. Former Pro Bowl defender Marcellus Wiley added his name to a lawsuit accusing NFL teams of illegally dispensing powerful narcotics and other drugs to keep players on the field without regard for their long-term health. "The first thing people ask is, knowing what happened, would you do it again?" said Wiley, currently an ESPN analyst. "No. No I wouldnt." The lawsuit was originally filed May 20 in U.S. District Court in northern California and amended Wednesday to add 250 more players, bringing the total to 750 plaintiffs. Wiley, who played in Buffalo, San Diego, Dallas and Jacksonville from 1997-2006, is the ninth player identified by name, joining former Chicago Bears Jim McMahon, Richard Dent and Keith Van Horne, Jeremy Newberry and others. The lawsuit, which is seeking class certification, covers the years 1968-2008. It contends team physicians and trainers across the NFL routinely -- and often illegally -- provided powerful narcotics and other controlled substances on game days to mask the pain. Among them were the painkillers Percodan, Percocet and Vicodin, anti-inflammatories such as Toradol, and sleep aids such as Ambien. Lead attorney Steven Silverman said some teams filled out prescriptions in players names without their knowledge or consent. He said those drugs were then "handed out like candy at Halloween" and often combined in "cocktails." NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league had no comment. The former players have reported a range of debilitating effects, from chronic muscle and bone ailments to permanent nerve and organ damage to addiction. The players contend those health problems came from drug use but many of the conditions arent tied to the use of painkillers. Six of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, including McMahon and Van Horne, were also parties to the concussion-related class-action lawsuit filed against the NFL less than a year ago. The NFL agreed to pay $765 million to settle that case -- without acknowledging it concealed the risks of concussions from former players. A federal judge has yet to approve the settlement, expressing concern the amount is too small. Wiley, 39, was not part of the concussion lawsuit, but decided to join former players in this one afteer suffering partial renal failure in April, despite no history of kidney problems. Ryan McMahon Jersey. Wiley said he took "multiple injections" of painkillers over the course of a season to cope with an injury that then-San Diego team physician Dr. David Chao diagnosed as severe groin sprain. After the season, an independent doctor diagnosed a torn abdominal wall that required surgery. "You cant walk into a doctors office and say, "Give me this, give me that, just to get through the day. Somebody would shut the place down," Wiley said in a telephone interview. "But thats what was going on in the NFL. Its easy to get mesmerized. I wont deny that; theres this play through-the-pain, fall-on-the-sword culture, and somebody in line ready to step up and take your place... "And the next question when people hear about this stuff is wheres the personal responsibility? Well, Im not a medical doctor" he added, "but I did take the word of a medical doctor who took an oath to get me through not just one game, or one season, but a lifetime. Meanwhile, hes getting paid by how many bodies he gets out on the field." Chao stepped down as San Diegos team physician last June, after the NFL Players Association called for him to be replaced and filed a complaint. An independent panel cleared Chao. In April, as part of a stipulated settlement, Chao was placed on probation by the Medical Board of California. His license was also revoked, but that action was stayed while he remains on probation. He was accused of committing gross negligence, repeated negligent acts and acts of dishonesty or corruption. Chao was also found liable of malpractice in 2012 in a case involving a regular patient, not a Chargers player, with a judgment of nearly $5.2 million. Records also show he has been publicly reprimanded by the board and pleaded guilty to driving under the influence. The lawsuits main burden is proving cause and effect -- that use of painkillers in the past caused the chronic problems the players face now. The players also would have to show that they are suffering those problems at a greater rate than other people their age, and that its not due to other risk factors such as obesity, smoking and family history.
